Detachment 640 Specific Scholarships
Detachment 640 provides many scholarships, some including paid room and board, not offered by other detachments. When you consider these Det 640 specific scholarships, you'll realize why joining AFROTC at Miami University could be the best decision of your life!
Individuals, families, and organizations have generously contributed in the past to the endowments and scholarships we have in force at AFROTC Det 640. We are thankful for these gifts and do our best to steward them wisely. Gifts designated to the Air Force Friends account are tax deductible. Annual scholarship amounts awarded may vary from year to year based on rates of return on the endowments. The following scholarships are available:
- Miami University Presidential ROTC Scholarship
- Scholarship cadets can receive up to $2000 per year toward room and board as long as they live in a residence hall on campus. The commander of AFROTC Det 640 nominates cadets for this scholarship each semester.
- Colonel John A. McCann Scholarship
- Scholarship awarded on merit with preference for students with financial need. Merit shall include factors not limited to academics. The commander of AFROTC Det 640 nominates cadets.
- Colonel Pat R. Paxton Memorial Scholarship
- Available annual distribution used to make two annual awards to AFROTC cadets. The commander of AFROTC Det. 640 nominates cadets.
- Melissa Massaro Memorial Scholarship
- Annual scholarship of at least $1000 to an outstanding AFROTC cadet who exhibits the highest qualities of leadership, scholarship, and patriotism. Preference should be given to a female who aspires to become a rated officer in the United States Air Force. The commander of AFROTC Det. 640 nominates cadets.
- Gen Joseph Ralston (Ret.) Scholarship
- This scholarship is awarded, upon recommendation of the commanding officer, to multiple ROTC students who demonstrate financial need according to the FAFSA.
- AFROTC Detachment 640 Cadre Scholarship
- This scholarship is given on a case-by-case basis*. The Commander of the AFROTC unit determines the recipient(s) and the amount(s).
