Our philosophy is to facilitate open communication between students and faculty via an open-door policy which allows students to discuss any topics as needed. We strive to provide a welcoming atmosphere that nurtures students in a way that will make them the best Speech-Language Therapists they can be.

Kathleen Hutchinson, CCC-A, Professor (Ph.D., Pennsylvania State University, 1986) Audiologist who is investigating sensory deprivation among deaf children, the effects of exercise, fitness and muscle strength on hearing ability, and audiologic management of geriatric and preschool populations.
Graduate Program Coordinator
Laura J. Kelly, CCC-A , Associate Professor (Ph.D., Michigan State University, 1989) Audiologist who teaches courses in introduction to Audiology, amplification, hearing loss management and counseling. Research interests include counseling, attitudes toward hearing impairment and the perception of Deaf individuals.
Clinic Coordinator
Cheryl Stewart, CCC-SLP, Clinic Coordinator (M.A. New York University, 1991). She has worked in a variety of settings as a clinician, supervisor, team coordinator, consultant and
independent contractor. She specializes in infants and toddlers.
Faculty
Susan Baker Brehm, CCC-SLP, Associate Professor (Ph.D., University of Florida, 2003). Speech-language pathologist, who interests include the evaluation and treatment of voice disorders. She has a clinical and research affiliation with the Center for Pediatric Voice Disorders at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Her research also focuses on the use of respiratory training to reduce breathlessness during speech
and exercise in patients with upper airway disorders.
Amber Franklin, CCC-SLP, Assistant Professor (Ph.D., University of Washington, 2009). Her research interests are documenting change in clinical approaches to accent modification; acoustic and articulatory phonetics; cross-language phonetics and phonology; and socio-cultural aspects of communication.
Chip Hahn, CCC-A/SLP is a Visiting Professor(AuD, University
of Florida, 2007; dual MS, University of Louisville School of Medicine, 1989). He is a Doctor of Audiology and Speech/Language Pathologist. His clinical and research interests are in the areas of vestibular function, auditory processing, language disorders, early intervention, aural rehabilitation and supervision. He also has an interest in service delivery issues in non-profit settings and with
medically indigent individuals.
Alice R. Kahn, CCC-SLP, Associate Professor (Ph.D., University of Memphis, 1984) Speech-language pathologist whose interests include the teaching of professional writing, genetics, neuroanatomy, craniofacial anomalies, and clinical photography. Dr. Kahn is the author of Craniofacial Anomalies: A Beginner's Guide For Speech-Language Pathologists (2000) Singular Thompson Learning; and Waardenburg Syndrome (2007) Plural
Publishing.
Donna Scarborough, CCC-SLP, Associate Professor
(Ph.D., University of Cincinnati, 2002) Speech-language pathologist whose clinical and research interests include developmental neurosensory physiology, dysphagia and medical pediatrics.
Geralyn Timler, CCC-SLP, Assistant Professor (Ph.D., University
of Washington, 2000) Speech-langage pathologist, whose
interests include child language disorders. Dr. Timler has provided
clinical services to infants, toddlers, and school-age children with
language disorders in hospital and clinical settings for over eleven years. Her current research interests focus on the assessment andintervention of social communication skills in preschoolers and school-age children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders,
Specific Language Impairment, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder, and Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Barbara Weinrich, CCC-SLP, Professor (Ph.D, University of
Cincinnati, 1997) Speech-language pathologist who is interested in the study of child language disorders, voice disorders, techniques for supervising student clinicians on the undergraduate and graduate levels of clinical practicum, and private practice in communication disorders of children and adults.
Extern Coordinator
Kelly Knollman-Porter, CCC-SLP, Instructor and Externship Coordinator, (MA, University of Cincinnati, 1992). Speech-language Pathologist whose interests include adult neurogenic language, speech, cognitive disorders and dysphagia. She is currently directing the Miami University Stroke Group and Concussion Management Program.
Field Experience Coordinator
Lisa Williamson, CCC-SLP, Instructor and Field Experience Coordinator. (M.A. Miami University, 1984) Speech-language Pathologist who specializes in child speech and language disorders; She works in the Fairfield City schools and teaches our course in best practices in the public schools. She also supervises our graduate student school placement program.
Clinical Faculty

Susan Reich, CCC-SLP, Clinical Faculty, (M.S., Miami University, 1978). Speech-language pathologist supervising graduate and undergraduate clinicians. Her interests include autism and the school setting.

Connie Szymczak, CCC-A, Clinical Audiologist (M.A., University of South Carolina, 1980; AuD, Salus University, George S. Osborne school of Audiology , 2008). Clinical audiologist providing services in the Miami University Speech and Hearing Clinic.

Charles Swank, CCC-A, Clinical Audiologist (M.S., Miami University, 1994). Clinical audiologist providing services in the Miami University Speech and Hearing Clinic.
Part-time Faculty
In addition to the faculty listed above, the graduate program in speech pathology and audiology and the Miami University Speech and Hearing Clinic calls upon adjunct faculty and practicing professionals to provide guest lectures in areas of expertise and clinic supervision. These individuals have distinguished themselves in their respective disciplines and help provide a strong link between academics, clinical application and various professional organizations. We also maintain close ties on Miami's campus with the Scripps Foundation for gerontology, educational psychology and special education.

Melissa Price, CCC-SLP, Adjunct Professor (M.S., California University of Pennsylvania, 1993) Speech-Language pathologist with interests and has presented about international adoption issues related to second language learning.
