2008 Women's Studies Essay Contest |
The Women's Studies Program will be awarding two prizes in Spring 2008 in recognition of outstanding writing in the area of Women's Studies. The deadline for submission is Monday, April 21, 2008.
The Barbara E. Nicholson Prize will be given for the best undergraduate essay written this year in any area of Women's Studies scholarship. Papers may be of any length. Barbara E. Nicholson (1926-1979), Assistant Director of Libraries, was a staunch supporter of women's rights and contributed significantly to the Women's Studies Program as well as to the well-being of women at Miami.
The Women's Studies Essay Prize will be given in recognition of the best work produced by a graduating senior in the Women's Studies Program. The same stipulations apply to this award as to the Nicholson Prize.
Both prizes include a $100 cash award. Papers will be blind reviewed by a committee of Women's Studies faculty. Typed papers should be submitted with a detachable title page on which appear your name, local and home addresses, social security number, name of the award your are applying for, and telephone number(s). Your name should not appear on the manuscript itself.
