HOWE AND WINDATE WRITING CENTERS

FACULTY WRITING COMMUNITIES

A Faculty Writing Community (FWC) is a small group of faculty who meet for 90 minutes per week throughout fall semester. Each FWC picks its own meeting time, place, and agenda. The Howe Writing Center will help interested faculty find one another to form FWCs.

Who may participate?

To participate, you must be an untenured member of the faculty who is willing to commit to meeting for 90 minutes each week throughout fall semester.

What will FWC members do at the weekly meetings?

Each group will decide on its own format. One group may decide to write quietly together each week. Another may decide to discuss drafts. A third may choose to share writing plans and accomplishments week by week.

How large is a FWC?

We recommend four to eight faculty. But larger or smaller is also a possibility.

When and where will the FWCs meet?

The members of each FWC decide. A variety of arrangements are described at the following urls:

When will FWCs be formed?

The Howe Writing Center will provide an information center where interested faculty can share information. When several faculty agree on a time and place to meet together, an FWC is born.

Do FWCs really work?

They sure do. Here are some reports about their impact.
