Women of Color Celebration

The Women of Color Celebration
will return in 2013.

History: The Women of Color Celebration was launched in 1992 as an event designed to bring people together to celebrate the cultural diversity and accomplishments of women of color in the University and in the larger community. Following a four-year hiatus, the event was revived by the Women's Center in 2001. Typically held in early March as a bridge between Black History Month (February) and National Women's History Month (March), this event typically features speakers, student testimonials, an internationally-themed meal and presentation of the Jennie Elder Suel Distinguished Woman of Color Award (first presented in 1994) and Myrtis H. Powell Scholarship (first presented in 2003).
