CVSMU welcomes two new members
The Center for Visual Sciences at Miami University is pleased to welcome two new members. The first, Dr. Vincent Billock, is Lead Scientist with General Dynamics. The second, Dr. Andor Kiss, is Visiting Assistant Professor of Zoology at Miami University. You can find out more about them by going to our members page.Recipients Selected for Undergraduate
Research Award for Visual Sciences
Two students have been selected to receive the Undergraduate Research Award for Visual Sciences. The first,
Cornelius A. Thiels, is a senior zoology major. His winning proposal is entitled
“Defining deficiencies of C57BL/6 mice in early lens development". Cornelius is an undergraduate student in
Dr. Michael Robinson’s laboratory. He will receive $500 to pursue his research.
The second winner is Laura Smiley, also a senior zoology major. Her proposal is entitled: “Characterization of a protein that induces lens regeneration in newts". Laura is an undergraduate student in Dr. Katia Del Rio-Tsonis’ laboratory. She will receive $500 to carry out her investigation.
Goals and Objectives
The CVSMU goals are to involve Miami University faculty, students and the community as a whole in activities supported by the center. These activities include a seminar series and outreach programs to educate the public on the importance of vision research. Other activities include the fostering of collaborative, vision-centered projects between the members of the center as well as with other faculty.An additional important goal is to support graduate and undergraduate student vision research by providing student research awards.
