Allan has also taught at Yale University and the University
of Oregon and, for one year each, at the University
of Helsinki in Finland, the University of Amsterdam
in The Netherlands, and the University of Nairobi in
Kenya. A prize-winning teacher, he is author of eight
books of his own, which include The Politics of
Propaganda: The Office of War Information, 1942-1945;
Home Front U.S.A.: America during World War II;
and Life Under a Cloud: American Anxiety about the
Atom, and co-author of the college textbook The
American People: Creating a Nation and a Society
and the high school textbook America: Pathways to
the Present. He was educated at Harvard (BA, magna
cum laude 1966), Columbia (MA 1967) and Yale (PhD 1974)
and served in the Peace Corps in the Philippines from
1967 to 1969.
Allan has
traveled and lectured all over the world (primarily
in Europe, Asia and Africa). His first trip to Vietnam
came in May-June 2002.
