Our lab studies the ecology of lakes and their surrounding landscapes. We are interested in how watersheds and lake food webs interact to regulate nutrient cycling and productivity; how animals mediate nutrient cycling in various ecosystems; and carbon cycling in watershed-lake complexes. We employ many approaches including comparative sampling, long-term studies, field and lab experiments, and simulation modeling. Collaborative research is an important component of our lab. Many projects represent collaborations between faculty, technicians, postdocs and students (graduate and undergraduate). We encourage independent thinking, within the context of a cooperative and team-oriented atmosphere that fosters synergy among individuals. Contact: Mike Vanni (vannimj@miamioh.edu, 513-529-3192) |
