The minutes of the May meeting were approved.
Academic Personnel (Janet Cox)
- Sherry Schilling has been hired in Human Resources in the Benefits Generalist position.
- John Wiegand has been named permanent chair of Architecture.
- Melissa Chase has been named Assistant Dean of the School of Education and Allied Professions.
- The following have been appointed Acting Chairs in their respective departments: Iris Johnson (EDT), Kerry Powell (ENG), and Nelda Cambron-McCabe (EDL).
- The Department of Physical Education, Health and Sports Studies is now the Department of Kinesiology and Heath.Benefit-eligible, full-time unclassified staff will have parental leave days “loaded in” Banner their employee record upon request. Unless parental leave is requested, the days available will read as “0.”
Communications Committee (Melanie Hoffmann)
- The next edition of the UPAC newsletter is scheduled for August, 2007.
Senate (Amy Poppel)
- President Hodge accepted the recommendations of Senate regarding Miami’s Smoking Policy. The policy bans smoking on campus with the exception of designated areas covered by a hospitality clause (e.g., Marcum Conference Center) and those campus sidewalks adjacent to streets maintained by the city of Oxford.

- Cheryl reported that UPAC has $2338 in its budget.

- UPAC officers for the 2007-2008 academic year were elected:

- Janet Cox presented a draft of a Search and Appointment Procedures Policy for unclassified administrative staff. UPAC members had some questions about the applicability of the policy for positions funded on a temporary basis as well as for full-time interns. Doug Curry suggested, and Janet agreed, that UPAC members have until 4:00 P.M. on Friday, June 8 to look over the policy and forward any suggestions to Janet. The proposed effective date of the policy is July 1, 2007.
- Cheryl reminded UPAC of the meeting with Dr. Hodge on Thursday, June 14 at 10:00 A.M.
