Minutes of the April 2007 meeting were approved with corrections.
Announcements
The chair commented on the success of the UPAC-sponsored Open Forum on April 26.
Personnel (Marsha McIntosh)
- The new Parental Leave policy will go into effect on May 1, 2007. The exact wording of the policy is being finalized. Questions can be directed to Janet Cox or Carol Hauser.
- A smoking cessation program will begin on May 8 if the enrollment goal of 12 is met. Employees who complete the course will be reimbursed $30 by the University. Contacts for this program are Michelle Simmerman (Housing, Dining, and Guest Services) and Marlene Diers (Wellness Program/Human Resources).
- Second interviews for the Benefits Generalist position are underway. Marsha thanked Matt Boaz for his participation in the interview process.
- Brochures for summer and fall staff development programs will be out by the end of May.
Academic Personnel (Janet Cox)
- James Lentini has been appointed Dean of the School of Fine Arts, effective July 1, 2007.
- Salary increment recommendations are due the first week of May.
- The final increment pool has not yet been set.
Networking (Amy Lauer)
- The UPAC luncheon series is over until next Fall. A new list of speakers will be generated with the assistance of new UPAC members.
Benefits (Amy Lauer)
- The Benefits Committee sent its recommendations to President Hodge on April 23.
Senate (Amy Poppel)
- Senate sent to President Hodge a recommendation that all Miami University campuses be designated as smoke free in all areas and at all times. Senate recommended enforcement begin 12 months from the date of the official announcement.
Key Contacts (Matt Boaz)
- All outgoing UPAC members will be added to the Key Contacts list.
Old Business
- The committee tabled the writing of UPAC by-laws until Fall 2007. Cheryl noted that Janet Cox and Marsha McIntosh will provide critical input and direction for that project.
New Business
- UPAC recommended 4 individuals for UPAC membership, 2007-2010. They are Ted Pickerill, Karen O’Hara, Stephen Gordon, and Anne Schaur. The new members will be invited to the June meeting where officers for 2007-2008 will be selected.
- The working meeting scheduled for May 15 was cancelled.

Cheryl thanked UPAC members for a great year. UPAC members in attendance expressed their gratitude to Cheryl Newton for an excellent year as chair of UPAC.
