With the launch of the new myMiami portal postponed and the current Blackboard contract for the portal system extended, myMiami will continue to provide a necessary gateway to university information and web services.  However, the Blackboard learning management system (LMS) contract expires December 31, as previously announced.

IT Services will be performing routine annual maintenance on the Exchange email/calendaring system between Sunday, December 25 and Friday, December 30.  As part of this maintenance, all rooms and resources in the Exchange system will be updated.

Daily assessments of progress toward the anticipated launch of the new myMiami portal have resulted in a decision to postpone the date of that lauch.  The myMiami portal team and IT Services leadership agreed that their confidence in being able to provide a well-tested and solid service is not high enough to warrant proceeding with the December 21 date.

On Wednesday morning, December 21, the MU-WIRELESS network server security certificates change from Global Sign Root CA to AddTrust External CA Root.  Changing the certificates will provide Miami with a significant cost savings, with no impact to the security of our network.

IT Services has received reports from a number of Miami community members who have gotten an email message titled: Emergency Email.

Between December 18 and 30, IT Services will be conducting annual maintenance on faculty/staff email accounts.  Some email accounts will be affected during this time.  The moves will occur in batches, so not everyone will experience an outage at the same time.  IT Services will send an email message to each account owner being moved.

IT Services will be performing maintenance and implementing changes in the computing environment over the upcoming Winter Break. This is traditionally a time when demands on systems are lower, reducing the risk that students, faculty or staff will be inconvenienced by the outages and disruptions that this work may cause.

McAfee has announced an end-of-life for the Home-Use Antivirus software that has been available to Miami’s faculty and staff for almost a decade.  McAfee will continue to sell box-copies of the product, but will not offer the inexpensive volume licenses.

The IT Service Center schedule for December 16 – January 9 will be as follows:

Oracle will present two sessions demonstrating its CRM on Demand and on Demand Marketing tools on Thursday, December 8. CRM on Demand was chosen this summer to replace Recruitment Plus, used by the Office of Admission on the Oxford campus.
