How do I obtain Microsoft Software for my office computer?
Miami University has a Campus Agreement that provides the Desktop Suite (Operating System upgrades and Office products) for all institutionally owned computers. Office products are available via the software store at www.software.muohio.edu/store and will be delivered to your computer through Altiris. To upgrade your Operating System, contact your Technical Support Representative (TSR) or contact ITHelp at 513-529-7900 or send at e-mail to email@example.com.
I need other Microsoft products; how do I buy them and do I get a discount?
In addition to the Campus Agreement, Miami has an Academic Select agreement that allows us to purchase Microsoft software other than the OS and Office at deeply discounted prices. To purchase, go to the software store at http://www.software.muohio.edu/store and locate the Microsoft brand. Use the “Other Software Request” link to request titles that are not listed in the store. Can I get Microsoft software for my student organization?
By having your organization advisor sign a Memorandum of Understanding, your organization may purchase Microsoft software for computers used by the organization if they are university property. Microsoft does not allow students to install the software on personal computers even if they are used in support of the organizations activities. To obtain a form, call the Software Licensing Unit at (513) 529-6061
How do I buy software for personal use?
Students-To purchase Microsoft software for personal use, go to the University Bookstore. Microsoft Office products for Windows and Macintosh computers will be available for pick-up.
Faculty and Staff-To purchase Microsoft Work at Home Software, please go to www.muohio.edu/e-academy. The software will be available via home delivery or download.
NOTE: At this time, go to www.muohio.edu/e-academy for Microsoft products other than Office.
To qualify to purchase, students must be currently enrolled in at least one class that will result in the awarding of credit hours, verifiable through the Office of the Registrar. Graduate students are considered "students" for the purpose of purchasing software.
Note: If you are going to study abroad and you are not on campus, you can contact the Miami Bookstore by calling 513-529-2634 and arrange to have the software sent to your home for a nominal shipping fee. PLEASE NOTE: You should order your software at least two weeks prior to your departure.
Faculty and staff may purchase either software with perpetual rights (Student Select) or subscription (Work-At-Home) software. If you are a full-time staff person but a part-time student, you will be required to purchase software as a staff person, not as a student.
Who is NOT Eligible?
- Emeritus and retirees
- Anyone enrolled in non-credit courses only
- Anyone listed in Miami's directory as "courtesy"
- Parents, spouses, siblings
Types of Software:
Student Select: Perpetual license; you own the license even when you leave Miami.
Work-At Home: Subscription license for faculty and staff to be used for performing Miami work on your personal computer. You are required to uninstall the software if you leave Miami.
To obtain an upgrade to the Apple Operating System, (OS) for institutional Macintosh computers, please contact your divisional technical representative. The OS is available from the IT Services Software Store at www.software.muohio.edu/store but it is important that it you are sure that your computer is capable of being upgraded to the latest OS prior to downloading.
What is the cost?
IT Services is subsidizing the purchase of the upgrades and the upgrade will be offered at no cost to the divisions.
How do I get Adobe Software?
IT Services CLP agreement allow faculty and staff to purchase all Adobe software at deeply discounted prices for institutional computers. Go to www.software.muohio.edu/store and place your order. The software will be delivered to your office.
How do I request Adobe Software for a Registrar managed classroom?
IT Services supports the academic mission by maintaining a broad set of Adobe titles for use in Registrar managed classrooms.
