The graduate program in Spanish at Miami University offers students the opportunity to earn the Master's degree through advanced study of Spanish and Spanish American literature and Spanish language and linguistics. The program leading to the M.A. degree is designed to provide students with a variety of approaches to the literatures and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.  For non-native Spanish speakers, the program offers the possibility of studying one semester abroad in Spain (Universidad de Málaga or Universidad de Oviedo).

Financial aid deadline for fall 2009:  March 1, 2009

 

Test required:  N/A (TOEFL exam for non-English native speakers).

Other admission requirements:  Applicants to the M.A. program in Spanish must have completed the B.A. degree or its equivalent with a major in Spanish or with a sound preparation in Hispanic language and literature. It is expected that the applicant will have a strong  command of written and spoken Spanish; this mahy be ascertained by means of an oral interview or a taped biographical statement in Spanish prepared by the candidate.  Formal applications, in addition to transcripts required by the Graduate School, must include three letters of recommendation and a statement of purpose (written in Spanish from the applicant).

Program requirements:  32 semester hours.  Students take a comprehensive written and oral final examinatin and choose a thesis option or a guided research tutorial ooption.
