Oral English Language Skills
Miami University has provided a language assessment and language modification program since 1989 for individuals at the graduate level for whom English is an additional language. Across the university all incoming graduate assistants for whom English is not their primary language are required to take a series of tests. These tests assess their written and oral language skills in English. The tests are administered by the English Department and the Speech Pathology and Audiology Department. Classes are available for those individuals who do not demonstrate proficiency in either written or oral English. Proficiency must be demonstrated in both areas, written and oral, before teaching assignments for the graduate assistantship can be made.
