Aural Rehabilitation and Auditory Perceptual Skills
The aim of aural rehabilitative efforts for deaf and hard-of-hearingindividuals is to overcome their challenges. The program in Speech Pathology and Audiology provides academic and clinic study in the field of audiologic habilitation for both children and adults. Assistance is provided to help the individual overcome the communicative, social and psychological effects of hearing impairment. The client's family will also be involved in the aural rehabilitation treatment process. Rehabilitation often includes skill development in listening and speechreading, and assertiveness training in various environments. Once amplification is successfully discussed and managed, further assistive technology and computer software programs are often necessary for difficult listening situations. Students, with their supervisors, are involved in all areas of Audiology assessment and intervention The comprehensive clinical service program in speech, language and audiology clients within the university and the southwest Ohio community provides excellent experience for clinicians working with a variety of adults and children with hearing loss.
