Student Research Opportunities

The Department offers a variety of opportunities for students to conduct original research, with faculty serving as project advisors.  Both Sociology and Gerontology offer programs of independent study for variable academic credit (see links at left), and students interested in research-oriented careers gain valuable knowledgeable and training through the Applied Sociological Research Minor.  In addition, Department faculty regularly mentor students in the University's Undergraduate Summer Scholars Program and the College of Arts and Sciences' Dean's Scholars Program.

The Department also offers the Betty Kent Memorial Award, which offers up to $2000 in funding for Sociology majors to conduct research projects of their own design.
