Academic Advising

An undergraduate student choosing Sociology or Gerontology as a major must complete a change of major form in the College of Arts and Science Advising office (146 Upham Hall). This form is then signed by the appropriate Chief Departmental Advisor (see below). The CDA can assist in making course selections consistent with the student’s academic interests and plans, and is responsible for indicating to the Registrar whether or not departmental requirements for graduation have been fulfilled. Academic petitions must be approved by the appropriate Chief Departmental Advisor or Graduate Advisor.

However, the ultimate responsibility for fulfilling all requirements rests with the student. In the second semester of the junior year, the student should see the CDA to review major requirements for graduation. The student should also see an advisor in the College of Arts and Science (146 Upham) to review the completion of College and University requirements.
