Students may apply for financial aid to help cover study abroad expenses. The amount of assistance that students are eligible to receive may be adjusted to offset the added travel expenses. If you are interested in study abroad programs, please visit the website of the Office of International Education at www.muohio.edu/internationalprograms and the Ohio International Consortium at www.uc.edu/global/oic.html.

Study Abroad Airfare Grant

Eligible undergraduate students with financial need may receive a university grant up to $600 for their study abroad airline ticket and could receive the remainder of their ticket price in an interest free university loan.

Students may request the Study Abroad Airfare Grant no sooner than 90 days prior to their estimated departure date. If eligible, students will receive a check to purchase their ticket. The student must submit documentation that the ticket was purchased or the student will be required to pay the full ticket price back to the university.

To qualify for this grant an undergraduate student must have financial need, attend full time during either the fall or spring semester in a study abroad program, and submit the following:

  • A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine financial need. If you have not already submitted your FAFSA, apply at www.fafsa.ed.gov. See deadline dates listed in the specific table below.
  • A printed and signed estimate of the airline ticket cost or a copy of the receipt if the ticket was already purchased.
  • A completed Consortium/Contractual Agreement and a Study Abroad Declaration. If participating in a Miami program where Miami bills you, you are not required to complete a Consortium/Contractual Agreement.
