Most departments have student positions with different
levels of responsibility. The jobs are classified in
one of eight pay ranges: Student Aide, Student Assistant,
Student Associate, Student Specialist, Student Master
1, Student Master 2, Graduate Student 1, and Graduate Student 2.
Student Aide - Starting wage = $7.00 per hour.
The work is routine, standardized, and follows prescribed
procedures; previous experience is not usually necessary.
Student Assistant - Starting wage = $7.35 per hour.
Sometimes the work is routine; however, office and/or
technical skills are required. Student Assistants may
perform independent statistical analyses, assist with
preparation of workshop materials, or supervise other
students.
Student Associate - Starting wage = $7.70 per hour.
Assist in teaching, research, or planning and producing
instructional materials. May provide tutorial consultation
or formal classroom instruction on use of personal computers
and software. May perform work requiring advanced specialized
skills in such areas as graphics, mechanics, etc. May
provide in-depth counseling to students, families, and
employees about policies and procedures that require
specialized knowledge of federal, state, and university
regulations. They may also supervise other student employees.
Student Specialist - Starting wage = $7.85 per
hour.
Assist in serving and/or preparing menu items for customers.
Prepare and serve food in University Dining Halls. Perform
dishwashing and related food service activities including:
general cleaning of work areas, garbage removal, and
stockroom activities. Perform general maintenance and
housekeeping duties as required. Perform recycling activities
as outlined by the University's recycling center.
Student Master 1 - Starting wage = $8.70 per hour.
Work performed is highly complex and requires extensive
training (either coursework or in-house departmental
training program). Work is done independent of supervision.
Note: Requests to use this classification must be approved
by the Office of Student Financial Assistance. A detailed
summary of the work to be performed must accompany the
request.
Student Master 2 - Starting wage = $10.20 per hour.
Work performed at this level is done independent of
supervision and requires the highest level of artistic,
technical, or scientific expertise. Provide supervision
to student employees at the Student Master 1 level.

summary of the work to be performed must accompany the
request.
Graduate Student 1 - starting wage = $9.20
per hour and Graduate Student 2 - starting wage = $10.20
per hour.
A Graduate Student may be paid the Graduate
rate of level 1 and 2, provided that the skill and complexity
of the job is equivalent to a Graduate Assistant (e.g.,
researcher). Prior to working, the supervisor and student
must get approval through the Graduate School (529-3734)
and submit written approval to the Office of Student
Financial Assistance. Before hiring an international
student, call the Office of International Education
(529-5628) to verify that the student is eligible to
work.
