How does the marital status of men and women compare among Ohio's population age 60+?

Women above the age of 60 are more likely to be widowed, divorced, or separated than men. The figure below shows that 75.2% of men age 60+ in Ohio were married in 2000, compared to 46.1% of women of the same age. Because single, older adults are more likely than married couples to need formal personal or institutional care, the population that is potentially in need of assistance is largely female.
