What are the major characteristics of Ohio’s nursing facilities? (size, affiliation, cost)

These facilities are reported by their designation as freestanding, hospital-based, county homes, or as combined nursing and residential care facility. In 1999, freestanding nursing facilities’ major source of payment (70.0%) came from Medicaid compared to 21.7% of hospital-based facility payments. 76.6% of freestanding NFs were for-profit entities charging an average daily rate of $120 per Medicaid resident, while hospital-based facilities were not-for-profit entities charging an average daily rate of $332 per Medicaid resident.
