Scripps Gerontology Center

Graduate Programs

Miami University’s graduate programs in gerontology develop scholars and practitioners who can contribute to meeting the challenges of an aging society. Miami offers a Master of Gerontological Studies (MGS) and a Ph.D. in Social Gerontology. The MGS program prepares individuals from diverse backgrounds for work in a variety of settings in both the public and private sectors, as administrators, planners, practitioners, researchers, advocates, and trainers. Graduates of the doctoral program are prepared to teach and conduct research in institutions of higher education. They are also well prepared for research positions in national policy or service organizations.

Degrees are granted through Miami University’s Department of Sociology and Gerontology. Scripps Gerontology Center provides administrative support to the academic programs. The graduate programs in gerontology are supported and enhanced by the activities of Scripps Gerontology Center and the knowledge base of its multidisciplinary research staff.  Scripps actively involves students in its research and educational activities.
