General Medicine

The SHS staff includes physicians, nurse practitioners, R.N.s., L.P.N.s., and registered medical assistants. We encourage you to find a practitioner that you are comfortable seeing for all of your primary care needs at the Student Health Service.

Eligibility
The Student Health Service (SHS) provides outpatient care to all Oxford and regional campus student enrolled in at least one class, regardless of insurance carrier.

Services
Our services include examination and treatment for illness and minor injuries, men’s sexual health, laboratory, x-ray, immunizations and pharmacy services. In addition, holding beds are maintained for observation and diagnostic studies.
                                   
Hours 
The SHS is open Monday through Friday throughout the year. Our hours shift to accommodate the increase of patient flow during the academic year.

  • Academic year – 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., limited staff during lunch
  • Summer hours – 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch
  • Academic breaks (winter, spring break) – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed for lunch

Appointments
You will maximize SHS resources and your time by making an appointment. You may call 513-529-3000 or make an appointment on-line. Check in at the Receptions/Records window.

NEW APPOINTMENT OPTION: Illness and injury appointments can also be made on-line. Please access this service at https://shsportal.muohio.edu/pyramedPortal and follow the directions. Special department appointments - physical therapy, immunizations, physicals and gynecology - must be made by phone.

It is very important that you arrive, as instructed, before your appointment time. If you need to move or cancel your appointment, we need (at least) a two hour advance notice to avoid a missed appointment fee. Early appointments (8 - 10 am) must cancel/move by 5 pm on the day before the appointment.

Bring your Miami ID card and your insurance card to your appointment.


Charges
You are charged fees for office visits, laboratory services, x-ray procedures, pharmaceuticals and other miscellaneous items. The fees may be billed to your insurance, your bursar bill or paid with MasterCard/Visa. There is a $20 fee for a missed appointment.

Emergencies
After hours, overnight and emergency care is available at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford accessed through the emergency room.

Records Release
Your medical records are confidential. Nothing will be released from your records without your written consent. You may obtain a copy of your records or have us transfer your records by signing a HIPAA release form at our office.
