Who is eligible to receive services at
the Student Health Service? Any fulltime
Oxford campus student is eligible. Part-time students
are eligible if they have paid the full-time general
student fee.
Do I need to have an appointment?Appointments
are certainly encouraged in order to save time.
A majority of the patient traffic is walk-in and
students who do so are given appointments when
they check in.
If I'm sick how do I ge the Student Health
Service? Can I park in the lot? Please call
medical transport at 529-2277 for a ride. The
Red Express bus also stops near our door.
What do I need to bring with me?
Your student identification card is required to
verify eligibility for service.
Do I need to bring my insurance card? No.
The Student Health Service does not file claims
directly to the insurance company. We can provide
a receipt the business day following your visit
which you can submit to your insurance company.
Does the medical history form need to
be completed and returned to the SHS before orientation
or before registration for classes? A
completed medical history form (found on-line)
is required to be on file for all registered students.
First year students register during orientation
and their registration cannot be finalized until
a completed medical history form is on file.
Can students utilize the Student Health
Service even if they do not purchase the student
health insurance? Yes. All students are
required to have insurance (see. Student Insurance)
and the University offers a policy for those who
would like to purchase it. However, the services
of the SHS are available to all Oxford campus
students who have paid the full general fee.
Is there a difference in service provided
for students who have the student health insurance
than for those who do not? No. The care
provided for eligible students is the same regardless
of their insurance coverage.
Will the student health insurance cover
charges at the SHS? Yes. The student
health insurance will cover routine charges for
services at the SHS– the standard medical
care provided for illness or injury after the
deductible is met. It does not cover routine examinations
or immunizations – prevention or wellness
services.
What if I take allergy shots, are need the
service of a medical specialist not available
at the Student Health Service? For services
we are unable to provide, we make referrals to
the appropriate specialist.
Can my parents get a copy of my SHS charges?
If you are over 18 we must have your written permission
to provide a record of your charges or anything
else related to your care at the SHS. See Medical
Records.
Can my home physician call in a prescription?
Yes. Your home physician may call or fax in a
prescription. You may also bring laboratory or
X-ray orders from home.
If I am treated at the SHS will my parents
be notified? If the situation is serious
and you are in the company of the clinician, you
can give verbal permission for your parents to
be contacted. Otherwise, the visits are part of
your medical record and remain confidential. The
same applies to conversations with the clinician
about your treatment –- your permission
is required for such information to be released.
