Graduate Assistantships

Welcome!

There are several different graduate assistantships available in the Office of Residence Life. No matter where in Student Affairs your interests lie, we are sure that one of our assistantships will suit you and your talents!

No matter what graduate program you are enrolled in, you will find that our assistantships help you develop skills that you will carry into your profession. Graduate Assistantships in the Office of Residence Life will give you experience with staff supervision, training, and evaluation. You will develop time management, presentation and group facilitation skills. This position enables you to advise student groups and holistically educate students through individual and group interactions in a challenging and supportive environment. You will have the opportunity to be involved in departmental committee work. All graduate assistants must be full-time students enrolled for 10 - 13 credit hours in a graduate program at Miami University during the period of their assistantship.

All positions within the Office of Residence Life begin the contract with mandatory training in mid-July each year. This is a fulltime training which runs through August. All assistantships require some scheduled night and weekend obligations. These obligations can be associated with major office events, including but not limited to: Move-In Weekends, the First Year Institute Orientation Program, Parents’ Weekend, Homecoming, hall closing days. As with any live-in position, staff members are also responsible for handling crises as they occur in their areas. These assistantships will average 20-25 hours per week over the course of the academic year
