First Year Adviser The First Year Adviser is a live-in master's-level professional who is responsible for the operation of one residence hall, housing between 140 and 350 first-year students. This full-time professional serves as both the hall director and the academic adviser to first year students living in the residence hall. The First Year Adviser is charged with shaping the environment and experiences of first year students by providing services and programs focusing on the Office of Residence Life's Residential Curriculum. This encompasses learning outcomes of academic success, effective community engagement, intrapersonal development and cultural proficiency. The position First-Year Adviser reports to a Coordinator of Residence Life. Depending on the size of the residence hall, some First Year Advisers supervise a graduate student; called the Assistant First Year Adviser.

Heritage Commons Apartment Director/First Year Adviser The Apartment Director/First Year Adviser is a live-in master's level professional who is responsible for the operation of an apartment complex of 428 upper-class students. The Apartment Director is charged with shaping the environment and experiences of upper-class students by providing services and programs focusing on the Office of Residence Life's Residential Curriculum. This encompasses learning outcomes of academic success, effective community engagement, intrapersonal development and cultural proficiency. This full-time staff member also serves as an academic adviser to 75- 100 first year students. The Heritage Commons Apartment Director reports to a Coordinator of Residence Life .

Coordinator of Residence Life The Coordinator of Residence Life is a full-time professional in the Office of Residence Life at Miami University. As a member of the Central Staff of the Office, the Coordinator supervises 10-12 full-time professionals (first year advisers), and graduate resident directors. The Coordinator works to foster living-learning environments that fulfill the goals and objectives of Miami University , the Division of Student Affairs, and the Office of Residence Life. The Coordinator takes a leadership role in shaping the environment and experiences of students via services and programs that foster academic success, promote student development, and encourage responsible involvement in campus and community life. The Coordinator is expected to create and sustain harmonious working relationships and to serve as a role model for students and staff. There are four Coordinators of Residence Life in the Office, each reporting to an Associate Director.
