Commuter Council

In the Fall of 2007, the Commuter Council was created because we want and need a voice at Miami University's Oxford Campus. The purpose of this organization is to address any issues and/or concerns specific to the commuter student, both traditional and non-traditional age. With representation on Student Senate, the Commuter Council has had the opportunity to communicate our concerns to university administrators and other student leaders. The Commuter Council also is responsible for petitioning the Associated Student Government for funds to support commuter student programs and activities.

Commuter Senator

For the 2007-2008 Academic year, our Commuter Senator has been Ryan Spence. Ryan is a first-year student in the English Department and was appointed because of his deep interest in politics as well as commuter issues. He is very dedicated as Commuter Senator and works closely with our staff and students to keep us aware of campus issues. Part of his job is to attend ASG meetings on behalf of commuter students. The other part is to give a brief review of the current topics in ASG at Commuter Council meetings or get the information from ASG meetings to commuter students via Blackboard, etc.

Student Affairs Council Representative

Currently, we do not have an SAF Represenative for Commuters. Like the Commuter Senator, this position requires a year-long committment to attend weekly or monthly meetings. If you are interested in holding this position for the 2008-2009 Academic year, please stop by the Commuter Center to get more information.

Be apart of a rebuilding of an organization, to make it your own. Be apart of a group of students who are committed to make change and committed to the needs of our students. Our student organization is an excellent way to begin your leadership experience at Miami University. Look for meeting times in the Commuter Center in September 2008!
