Crime Prevention Tips When Leaving Town
- Take your valuables with you.
- Fill out a Vacant House Form at www.cityofoxford.org and OPD will make vacant house checks to your residence while you are away.
- DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR HEAT! Set your thermostat no lower than 55-60 degrees to prevent freezing pipes. Ask your landlord for specifics.
- Make sure all holiday litter is cleaned up.
- Make plans for trash cans to be removed from curb.
- Double check locks on doors and windows, including any basement/ground level windows.
- Temporarily stop your mail and newspapers.
- Consider keeping your outside lights on and using timers on your inside lights to deter any intruders.
- Know who the last person out of your house will be and make sure they understand that they are responsible for locking up your residence.
- Remember the City of Oxford has a 72-hour parking limit.
- DO NOT leave your car parked on a city street! Citations will be given and towing of cars is very likely.
- All student vehicles with a valid MU parking permit can park in the Ditmer lot during breaks.
- If you do not have a parking permit, a temporary permit can be purchased from the Parking Office. This permit will allow you to park at Ditmer during the break.
