Sexual Assault Resources
The Sexual Assault Prevention and Education Program provides information, education, and awareness about sexual assault and ways to become involved in ending sexual violence. An educational and interactive peer education program can be requested for your dorm, group or organization by contacting the Sexual Assault Prevention Program at 529-1870.
The Rape Resource Guide is available online by Miami University's Institutional Response Team. This summary provides a basic guide to university resources regarding sexual assault with special emphasis on acquaintance rape.
Questions addressed in the Acquaintance Rape Resource Guide include:
- How severe is the problem here at Miami University?
- What can I do to prevent sexual assault?
- What if I'm sexually assaulted or know someone who is?
- What are the differences between campus disciplinary and criminal proceedings?

Alcohol and Sexual Decision Making
- Alcohol interferes with decision making and reaction time to determine unsafe situations.
- The majority of campus rapes are acquaintance rapes.
- Alcohol and other drugs are most often a factor in sexual assault.
- Consent is defined as a sober, non-coerced, verbal "yes".
- Men and women often speak different sexual scripts.
Stay Safe, Be Smart
- Get your own drinks. Don't let your drink out of your sight.
- Communicate clearly. Don't be afraid to say no or physically resist.
- Make sure your body language is consistent with your verbal message.
- Leave if you are in a situation that is threatening or even uncomfortable.
- Don't leave or walk home with someone you just met.

Assault Information
- Don't be afraid to go to the police. If someone forces you to have sexual contact and you don't want to (sexual assault) it is not your fault. Sexual assault is a crime and you have every right to report it to authorities.
- There is no charge for basic sexual assault related care at McCullough Hyde Hospital and Miami University Student Health Services. Your care is confidential; no one will contact your parents. All supportive services are available for students, female or male, who are sexually assaulted.
