Welcome
Welcome to Miami University's Advising home page. This site strives to be the center of Miami's decentralized academic advising model and provide students, faculty, and staff with access to the vast amounts of information on the topic of advising.
Definition
At Miami University academic advising is a developmental process that assists students
in their academic decision making by linking students and designated faculty and staff
together to communicate and exchange information that will contribute to students
reaching their maximum potential.
The goal of academic advising is to facilitate the educational growth and development
of students as they explore educational options, set educational goals and make educational
choices and decisions. The advising process is designed to encourage students to form
questions about their academic experiences and the direction of their learning; to wisely
seek and form answers to those questions; and to understand and utilize campus resources that
complement their interests, their potential and their career and life goals.
Miami uses a decentralized model of academic advising to facilitate this process. Because
we are a large campus with students who have diverse values, interests and skills, it is essential
that students seek assistance from academic advisors throughout their educational career. It is
the primary responsibility of students to choose their academic program and make satisfactory progress
in completing their degree.
