It is greatly beneficial to spend time figuring out what you want to accomplish through your university experience.  It is important to have long-term goals in mind, but also to have more specific short-term goals.

 Long-term Goals

· Graduate with a degree from Miami University.

· Be a member of a team that wins a championship.

· Become a member of a sorority.

· Get into a prestigious graduate school.

 Short-term Goals

· Get accepted into the School of Business.

· Finish foreign language requirement.

· Train an extra hour each day.

· Contact organization for meeting time.

· Research requirements for graduate school.

Your goals and priorities will lay the foundation for time management.  Having a firm understanding of what is important to you and what you want to accomplish will aid in making decisions about how you spend your time.

 Master Schedule

There are numerous ways to develop a scheduling system that works for you.  While some students use a daily and weekly planner others prefer using computer software and their palm-pilot.  Included below are methods that Miami students report using:

“Managing my time efficiently, I write down important dates from class syllabi and any other events such as sporting events, art exhibits, concerts, and lectures in a small planner.”

“I’m hooked up to meeting maker so I generally depend on that to keep meetings and class times organized.”

“I absolutely rely on my weekly planner.  I have to stay organized or I will go crazy.  I use post-it’s a lot, and have lots of “to-do” lists.”

“I use Miami Memos, notes to myself, and a checklist.”

“I use two different planners; a calendar for monthly and day to day events and Miami Memos for daily assignments.”
