TIPS FOR GETTING INVOLVED
- Brainstorm a list of personal and academic learning goals for college. What do you want to be able to know or have done by the time you graduate from Miami?
- Review this website and its links. Take notes on opportunities or tips that relate to the goals you developed in step #1.
- As you schedule courses and other activities for the semester, involve yourself in experiences that meet some or all of your goals.
- Attend divisional programs at the First-Year Institute, Mega Fair, and Volunteer Fair. Select one or two organizations or activities which relate to your goals, fit into your schedule and seem fruitful to pursue. Consider how much time you can reasonably devote without hindering your studies. How will this opportunity connect with your academic study? What roles or projects within the organization might you see yourself pursuing immediately or in the future?
- Identify at least one question, theme or issue that you will explore deeply during your undergraduate life. Your exploration could involve an independent study, extended reading or research project, study abroad, an intensive retreat or conference, or a social change project.
- Seek out and connect with a person who can serve as a guide or mentor throughout your leadership experiences.
- Write down your leadership philosophy, and use your experiences to clarify, question and deepen it.
