OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS

Associated Student Government
provides students with a wide array of leadership opportunities, including serving on student senate, running for a cabinet post, or playing a part in judicial court on or one of the numerous committees.
The Buck Rodgers Business Leadership Program
assists students in becoming the leaders they want to be. We identify opportunities for study, service and provide interaction with business professionals; students design the program to fit their personal goals. This voluntary, noncredit program underscores the process of leadership rather than thinking of leadership in terms of position.

The Center for Community Engagement in Over-the-Rhine
offers students service-learning opportunities, courses and an in-residence program to forge partnerships with community members in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood in Cincinnati.

The Center for Public Management and Regional Affairs
engages students in applied public policy and management research. The Center provides assistance to local governments (counties, municipalities, and townships) in southwestern Ohio and across the state.

Change: Emerging Comunity Leaders
provides Freshmen students with the opportunity to live in a community of other engaged students who wish to become actively involved on campus. Students are given the opportunity to shape their community, starting with the corridor of their residence hall. Through hands-on activities, Community Service, and meaningful conversations students grow to be empowered individuals. This LLC also attends course EDL 206 with their cohort.
The Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Leadership
provides advising, support and programming to Miami’s 50+ fraternities and sororities. The Office also offers programs for emerging leaders, chapter officers and committee chairs, and any other member who wants to advance the principles of our community.

The Harry T. Wilks Leadership Institute
aims to develop engaged citizens working to solve public and community problems. The Institute sponsors a series of curricular and co-curricular civic engagement programs, including courses focused on public and community leadership, international community leadership development, and a series of speakers and symposia promoting leadership for the public good. The LeaderShape Institute
is an intensive six-day retreat designed to develop leadership informed by vision and integrity and is supported by the Hogan Leadership Fund and private and corporate sponsors. Each Institute is comprised of approximately 60 men and women sponsored by various organizations from diverse ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds.

Leadership Connections
is an as needed workshop resource to enhance your organizations effectiveness. Leadership development workshops are offered monthly, as well as by request, to improve communication, organization, and cohesion among student groups. Leadership Library
is a collection of leadership books housed in Shriver 377 that can help each student reach their full potential as leaders. Reference the student reading list in order to find the text you may be looking for. Please, contact Dr. Katie Wilson to check out any books, or inquire about the resources available.
Miami University Partnership Office
cultivates and extends school/university partnerships; grows partnerships between Miami and community/social service agencies; and connects faculty, staff and students in partnerships across campuses. This office sponsors opportunities for Miami students to become involved in local schools and other service agencies.

The Office of Community Engagement and Service
provides opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills through service and ongoing exploration of how one’s actions can impact society. Students who want to get involved may choose to initiate service based on their personal interests or may select one of the Office’s sponsored programs: Empower, Adopt-A-School, or America Reads. The Office also sponsors weekend service projects in Oxford, Hamilton, Middletown and Cincinnati. Hanna House also provides transportation to and from several of their community partner sites.
 
Office of Residence Life
offers undergraduate students the opportunity to serve as resident assistants, hall assistants and office assistants. Resident assistants receive summer training and take a course to prepare them for this responsibility.

The Scholar Leader Program
is a living-learning program involving a one-year residence in Elliott or Stoddard Halls, two of the most historic residence halls in the nation. Endowments for each room provide scholarships to those students selected to live in the community. The Scholar Leader community encourages resident-guided programming, academic involvement, service learning projects and the opportunity to explore leadership through intensive group engagement. Student Undergraduate Orientation Leader (SOUL) Program
enables undergraduates the opportunity to develop leadership by becoming a role model for new students and serving as an ambassador on behalf of the University.  Students share their unique experiences with new students and family members while cultivating lasting relationships with fellow SOULs.  Applications are due in January. U-Lead Adventure
is an annual leadership institute for first year students. U-Lead introduces students to leadership activities, principals, and goals through a series of sessions and initiatives. U-Lead is facilitated by students and staff members who challenge each student to jumpstart their college experience.
University Lecture Series
has many opportunities throughout the year to hear prominent personalities, many recognized as "leaders" in the U.S. and around the globe. Speakers are sponsored by the Etheridge Grant and the Wilks Leadership Institute. Speakers are asked to consider the uniqueness of Miami University's campus culture and it's commitment to inclusive leadership.
The Urban Leadership Internship Program
is an endowed program administered through Honors and Scholars but open to all students. It provides paid, full-time, ten-week summer internships for 24-25 sophomore or junior students in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and Chicago. Students enroll in a sprint course prior to the summer experience to plan their own internships and service learning experiences. For more information, contact Katie Egart.
