Parental/Guardian Notification of Alcohol & Other Drugs
Effective August 15, 1999
In accordance with the 1998 amendment to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, Miami University may notify parent(s) or guardian when it is determined that a student, who is under the age of 21, is responsible for an alcohol or other drug violation. The notification to parents will be in writing following the completion of all disciplinary proceedings.
The Office of Ethics and Student Conflict Resolution will send the written notification in all circumstances, as described above, unless a student provides proof that he/she is not a financial dependent of the parent.
