Scholarship
Each year, the Alumni provide scholarship funds to a current Miami student.
The scholarship is in honor of the life, work, and legacy of Roy Bowen Ward, professor of Comparative Religion at Miami University. This scholarship champions Roy's commitment to be out, proud and active in the community. In 1986, when the LGBT student group (then called the GLA) was trying to reform, Roy was the only faculty/staff member willing to associate his name with GLA. This was a critical point in Miami's LGBT history and provided the foundation for the rich and vibrant community we have on campus today. Roy's commitment to busting down the closet door at Miami speaks volumes to his courage. Along with professor Dr. Linda Singer, Roy also created the first LGBT focused class on Miami's campus, which was called "The Homosexual and Lesbian Experience." Roy's bravery, vision, and commitment to the Miami University LGBT community defines the meaning of this scholarship.
The application for the scholarship will become available in early January 2012.
