3) Trans Ally Training
Learn about the wide variety of gender identities that fit within the umbrella term “transgender.” Participants will consider the difference between sex and gender, examine gender diversity, and discuss practical steps they can do to make transgender people feel safer. We will think about how civil rights apply to the transgender community, including free expression, controlling one’s body, receiving medical care, and entering committed relationships. Become a better ally and advocate for anyone concerned about their gender identity.
Presented as part of the Sixth Annual Human Rights and Social Justice Program.
DO MORE THAN JUST WATCH: Respect Human Rights, Fight for Social Justice!
Thursday, November 19 from 4:30 – 6:30 PM @ 212 MacMillan (Great Room)

12) The Social Action Center
Opportunity for social justice-oriented organizations and students!
Could you use extra resources, space, or expertise?
The Social Action Center began in 2001 as a meeting place and resource for student activism, service, and leadership. This fall the Office of Community Engagement and Service and the Wilkes Leadership Institute are partnering to re-launch the Center and we are building a leadership team. Currently we are both recruiting for student leaders to join the Advisory Board and for organization to join the network.
Vision Statement:
The Social Action Center is the crossroads for creating connections between Miami and the larger world and a place to inspire and educate students to take effective action.
E-mail Susan at hildebsv@muohio.edu or Sarah at woitesse@muohio.edu for more information.
The SAC is a project of the Office of Community Engagement and Service and the Wilks Leadership Center.
