Miami Leadership
Commitment hosts or sponsors a variety of events each year
in the effort to promote and foster leadership on Miami's
campus.
Annual Perlmutter
Leadership Conference
The Annual Perlmutter Leadership Conference will be Friday,
September 29, 2006. Download the conference information and registration form to make sure you can attend. One of the greatest benefits of the Perlmutter
Conference is that participants get to know one another and
learning more about the other leadership programs included
in "Miami's Leadership Commitment."
The Annual Perlmutter
Leadership Conference is planned by the Student Activities and Leadership
Office in the Shriver Center. All students are welcome, although
registration for the conference is required. Come back later for more information and for registration information
The theme for the 2006 conference is "Living Leadership." The keynote speaker will be Jonathan Sprinkles.
Jonathan keeps it real when he steps to the mic. He's funny, his energy keeps the audience on the edge of their seats, and he pulls no punches. His style is interactive, not “act like you're interested.” In record time, Jonathan has been celebrated as one of the most sought-after and well-respected speakers in the country. These are just a few of the reasons why he was nominated as the 2004 College Speaker of the Year by the members of the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities and has received accolades for his student website.
He uses humor and his unforgettable stories to show young people how to be authentic, live with strong character and avoid dream-robbers both in and out of the classroom. After just a few minutes with Jonathan, his quick wit and down-home style of "teaching beautiful people to act like it" will make you feel like you've known him your entire life.
Women's Leadership
Celebration
The Women's Leadership Celebration has emerged from a
series to its present form as a Celebration. It provides an
opportunity for both women and men to enhance their leadership
through the focused exploration of those ways of knowing and
leading most often attributed to women. Sponsored by the Etheridge
Center for Reflective Leadership and The Women's Center, the
Celebration has grown to standing-room only proportions.
The Women's Center, Women's Studies, Harry T. Wilks Leadership
Institute, the Buck Rodgers Business Leadership Program, the
College Student Personnel Program, and Student Affairs all
contribute to the planning of the annual Women's Leadership
Celebration. For more information, or to get involved, contact
Jane Goettsch at GoettsJM@muohio.edu.
Greek Leadership
Conference
The Greek Leadership Advance is held annually at an off-campus site. The Advance allows representatives from all of Miami's fraternal organizations to get acquainted, exchange ideas about how to enhance these organizations, and come back to campus to make a difference. For more information, please contact the Director
of the Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Leadership at (513) 529-1462.
Greek Foundation
Series
Foundations is a six-week leadership series designed for
sophomores and juniors. The series covers a variety of leadership
issues within the context of the Miami Greek experience in
a highly interactive manner. Through participation, students
develop their own philosophy on leadership, engage in critical
discussions about leadership and the Greek Experience, enhance
skills such as consensus building and collaboration, and begin
the process of implementing change within their chapters and
the Greek community. Sophomores and Juniors interested should
contact the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Leadership
at 529-1462.
Senior Last
Lecture
The purpose of this event is to provide the graduating
class the opportunity to reflect on the leadership values
and experiences they have learned and shared together during
their time at Miami. The event is funded through the Etheridge
Center for Reflective Leadership and the Miami University
Alumni Association. Alumni place a high value on recognizing
and developing leadership potential in the students who follow
them through the decades. The Last Lecture represents an ongoing
commitment to share the wisdom of generations of Redhawks.
Copies of Senior Last Lectures
are available as the cumulative wisdom of the years.
