Sex in the Basement
A popular sexual health program, especially with first year students, including differentiating between high-risk and low-risk sexual activities, how to put on a condom, an introduction to contraceptives and STIs, discussing importance of consent and sexual assault, what may happen when sex and alcohol mix, and the safety of abstinence. Furthermore, students learn about valuable on- and off-campus sexual health resources.
Straight Up or on the Rocks
This program is an interactive multimedia presentation on college drinking. This program seeks to provide students with information on the legal, physical, mental, and social consequences of drinking to help them make informed choices surrounding alcohol use. The program also includes a discussion about the norms and myths of drinking at Miami and signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning. Students learn about protective factors and low-risk drinking guidelines and can also try “beer goggles.”
Breast Cancer
While October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we offer this informative program on signs, risk factors, and treatment options all year. Many RAs and other organizations have hosted this program as part of a larger programming event involving a "Girl's Night Out" or "Chick-flick and Pizza Night."
