Unrecognized Organizations by Miami University
An "unrecognized" Fraternity or Sorority is one which may choose to exist "off campus" and does not follow university policies and regulations. These organizations are not permitted to use university facilities, post flyers, or have any of the privileges recognized organizations have earned.
The following organizations are not recognized by Miami University or any of the Greek Governing Councils:
- Alpha Xi Delta Sorority – was found responsible for violating Section 104 (Damage, Theft, or Unauthorized Use of Property), Section 105B (Prohibited Use of Alcohol) and Section 113 (Disorderly Conduct) of Miami's Code of Student Conduct. Alpha Xi Delta Sorority is suspended from Miami University through August 20, 2012.
- Delta Delta Delta Sorority – was found responsible for violating the Miami University Code of Student Conduct, Section 105B (Prohibited Use of Alcohol and) Section 109 (Hazing). Delta Delta Delta Sorority is suspended from Miami University through January 1, 2011.
The University discourages students from joining a fraternity or sorority that the University does not recognize. Unrecognized fraternities are not held to the University or Council standards that govern their behavior. They operate without the oversight, training and education provided by staff in the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Leadership.
It is important to understand that if you choose to become a part of an unrecognized organization you will never be recognized by the college as an official member of that organization. Therefore, be sure to verify the status of an organization with the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Leadership before beginning New Member Education Program for a fraternity or sorority.
