Opportunities for Involvement
The following opportunities allow Greek students to maximize their involvement within the community.
ACROPOLIS - is a high potential leaders weekend for students that have been recently initiated. This program examines personal leadership initiatives that serves as a foundation for future leadership opportunities within ones chapter and the community.
ADVANCE - specifically designed for chapter presidents, this weekend is designed to position leaders for optimal effectiveness within the chapter and build a sense of community for all leaders.
Foundations - Since its debut in 1996 over 300 students have met weekly to explore leadership and engage in complex discussions about critical issues impacting society in Foundations. Foundations is an eight-week emerging leader program designed for sophomores and juniors in the Fraternity/Sorority Community. The series utilizes highly interactive workshops that cover a variety of leadership areas that explore values and ethics as they affect student leadership on campus.
Greek Week - Imagine hurling your body into a humongous vat of jello in an attempt to rescue a tiny golf ball. Or, envision yourself sitting in a muddy pit, pulling on a rope with all your might, determined to capture the flag before your opponent succeeds. Yes that's right, Greek Week is crazy and FUN! Greek Week is a week set aside for fraternity and sorority members to come together to compete in real athletic competition, serve the Miami and Oxford communities and most importantly, have fun while doing it.
Order of Omega - The Gamma Psi chapter of The Order of Omega is a leadership honor society whose members demonstrate exceptional achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service to both the Greek and University communities. The Order of Omega's primary purpose is to recognize upper-class fraternity and sorority students who have attained a high standard of leadership in inter-Fraternity/Sorority activities, to encourage them to continue along this line, and to inspire others to strive for similar conspicuous attainment.
The Gamma Psi chapter is governed by a five-member executive board that coordinates ongoing educational, social, and service activities for the membership. Membership recruitment occurs in the fall semester. The qualifications for membership are exemplary character, scholarship and intelligence, and service and leadership in the inter-Greek affairs of the institution. Minimum criteria for consideration for membership includes the following: Junior or senior class standing (minimum 64 hours earned), G.P.A. higher than the all-Greek average, one full academic year of residence at Miami, individual must be in good standing with his/her respective fraternal organization.
Partnership with the Office of Community Engagement and Service - The Office of Community Engagement and Service is committed to making both community service and service-learning focal points of the undergraduate experience. We endeavor to develop and provide resources to assist students, faculty and staff who wish to engage in community service and service-learning projects. The site is designed to provide you with information, ideas, and resources to help you pursue your interests in these areas.
The Adopt-A-School Program - The implementation of Miami's "Adopt-A-School" Program continues to profoundly impact the oxford community. The program was initiated in the Fall of 1989, but the Fraternity/Sorority Community to aid the Talawanda School District in their efforts to maintain excellent educational programs for the community's young people. Students serve as tutors in the classroom and become role models for the students with whom they work closely with.
