Dr.
Roberts is a believer in the leadership potential of
all Miami students. He shares the vision of Miami's
Leadership Commitment ...to develop the
leadership potential in all students for the global
and interdependent world of the future. He is known
to claim that he has the best job in the world. Living

are blessed to be able to do. Dr. Roberts' commitment
is to understand leadership, learn how to design programs
to foster it in students, and convince as many young
people that they are capable of leadership as possible.

Denny's "Pursuing Leadership" blog, begun when he served as a Visiting Scholar at the Miami University Dolibois European Center (MUDEC) in Luxembourg, is an ongoing commentary of his more recent realizations about learning and leadership.

Experience:
Dr.
Dennis Roberts is currently the Associate Vice-President
of Student Affairs. He provides supervision and leadership
to the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority
Life and Leadership, Career Services, Community Engagement & Service, Student Activities &
Leadership and the newly formed Harry T. Wilks Leadership
Institute.
Previously
served Lynchburg College in Virginia as Dean of Students
(1988-1994) and Southern Methodist University as Associate
Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life (1979-1988).
Honors and Recognition :
The University of Maryland selected Dr. Roberts as the first Thomas M. Magoon Distinguished Alumni recipient in 1989.
Dr. Roberts has been recognized as a 1990 ACPA Annuit Coeptis Senior Leading Professional, a 1999 75th Anniversary Diamond Honoree, and a 2005 Senior Scholar. In 2006, the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) bestowed the Esther Lloyd Jones Professional Service Award on Denny for sustained commitment and service to student affairs work.
Scholarship:
Writing
and speaking about leadership and leadership development
have long been Dr. Roberts' passion. He was the founder
of one of the first cocurricular leadership programs
in the nation when he established the University of
Maryland's leadership program in 1976. His book, Student
Leadership Programs in Higher Education, is
recognized as the first comprehensive description of
what leadership development would entail in a modern
college or university. He is author of over thirty book
chapters, articles, and other published works in the
areas of leadership, community, and student affairs
work in higher education.

Family:
Dr. Roberts lives in Oxford with his
wife, Diane. Diane is a specialist with children who
have special needs at Talawanda Middle School. Daughter
Devin is a '02 Miami graduate in marketing. Daughter
Darbi is a student at Carnegie Mellon University with
double majors in psychology and European History. He
is predictably to be found exercising at the Recreational
Sports Center late in the evening and is an avid musician.
