Riding Lessons
Whether big or small, Miami Equestrian Center has something to offer!
A variety a lesson packages are available. English, Western, and Dressage lessons are available from beginner-advanced riders. Minimum age to begin lessons is eight years old. Riders will be placed in a class based on evaluation by instructors.

Class Descriptions |

RED - For children ages 8-10 or any older child new to riding at Miami University Equestrian Center. Children may bypass the red level after riding assessment.
* Skills taught: Basic grooming and leading. Basic balance and guiding. "Whoa and Go." Steering at the walk, introduction to trot. Correct position (ear, shoulder, hip, heel). Heels down riding.
GREEN - For the rider who has successfully completed the red level. Riders in this level should be able to groom, lead, and guide the horse independently in the arena. Can balance and maintain position at the walk.
* Skills taught: Trot, guiding at the trot. Upward and downward transitions. Introduction of post and two-point position. Basic figures at the walk. Basic concepts of collection and extension. Continue focus on balance and correct position at all times.
BLUE - For the rider who has successfully completed the green level. Riders should be able to groom, lead, and guide the horse independently in the arena. Riders can balance and maintain position at the walk and trot. Students understand and perform concepts of collection, extension, and have begun to post.
* Skills taught: Posting trot, diagonals, two-point position, figures at the trot. Contined focus on balance and correct position.
ADULT I - For the adult new to riding or with limited riding experience. For all adult riders without previous riding assessment at Miami University Equestrian Center. Adults may bypass the Adult I level after riding assessment.
* Skills taught: Grooming and tacking, basic horse handling, sound horsemanship techniques. Independently guiding at the walk and trot. Concepts of extension and collection at the walk and trot. Posting and diagonals. Guiding successfully through arena traffic.
ADULT II - For adults who have successfully completed Adult I or with significant prior riding experience and instructor permission.

- Helmets are required and available for use
- Riders must wear jeans and a leather shoe or boot with closed toe and small heel
- Riders are to arrive 20 minutes prior to the start of the lesson for check-in and tack up
- Information regarding weather cancellations will be provided. Lessons will be rescheduled on the following lesson day (Wed., Thurs., or Sat.)
