Start a Club Sport at Miami
How do I start a club sport?
Don’t see a club that interests you? Start your own using these guidelines:
- Generate interest in the activity.
- Contact the Club Sports Office.
- Write a constitution to govern the club.
- Find a faculty/staff adviser.
- Create a list of officers to serve the club.
- Petition the student government.
To be recognized as a Club Sport, a group must provide a valid service to the Miami University community and adhere to the governing policies established by the Club Sport Director, Office of Student Activities, and the Associated Student Government. Miami students, under the supervision of Recreational Sports and Student Activities, can:
- Demonstrate leadership
- Learn responsibility
- Develop decision making skills
The success of any Club Sport depends on the professionalism and leadership shown by the club officers, advisors and coaches. Created by and for the students, clubs establish their own membership requirements, dues and club activities. Members nominate student officers who run the day-to-day operations, which include:
- Scheduling practices, activities and games
- Contracting trainers and referees
- Arranging transportation
- Budgeting
