Rules And Regulations
Memberships
Memberships are sold at the Pro Shop window. All users may purchase their memberships by the week, month, semester, summer, year, or on a daily/per use basis. Special seasonal passes are also available during winter break. Memberships are non-transferable. No membership registrations will be accepted without proper identification. All members are required to sign an Informed Consent Waiver/Release Form.
Family Plan
Children 12 years of age and under become members of the RSC at no additional charge when a parent or legal guardian purchases an individual semester, annual, monthly, or summer membership. Parents or legal guardian must accompany children at all times in the Recreational Sports Center. Each child member (ages 3-12) must have RSC photo ID card.
Children 5 years and older
Are not permitted in the locker room of the opposite sex. A family locker room is available for use by parents and their children age 5 and older.
Children 12 years and under
Must be directly supervised (same activity area) by a parent or legal guardian at all times in the RSC. Access hours are only during Youth Access Hours. Infants are not to be left unattended and STROLLERS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN ACTIVITY AREAS. Children 7 and under are not permitted in the following areas: Fitness Center, Track, Exercise Performance Rooms and Spa.
Children 8 - 12
Children 8-12 are not permitted in the following areas: Fitness Center, Track, Exercise Performance Rooms. Spa use is restricted to the first 15 minutes of the hour during Youth Access Hours.
Teenagers 13-17
Teenagers ages 13-17 (proof of age required) may purchase their own membership or daily use cards. A parent or legal guardian must accompany the teenager during the membership registration and sign the Informed Consent Waiver/Release Form. Teenagers may have general use of the RSC during Youth Access Hours. They may use the Fitness Center when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Youth Access Hours (17 and Under)
Members 17 years of age and under have limited facility access. During
Fall and Spring semesters (late August-early May) access is:
Monday - Thursday, 6:00 a.m .- 2:00 p.m.
Friday - Sunday, all hours
Summer and university holidays, all hours
Children 12 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult member or paying adult guest at ALL times while they are in the facility (must be in the same activity area.)
An informed consent waiver form must be signed at the Membership/Pro Shop for teenagers 13-17 to gain access to the facility unaccompanied by an adult. For teenagers ages 13-17 to purchase a daily pass, a parent/legal guardian must be accompany the youth during the purchase process.
Lost Cards
A processing fee will be charged by the ID Office in the Campus Avenue Building or Shriver Center for the replacement of lost membership ID cards. YOUR FIRST ID IS GOOD FOR LIFE. Patrons may inquire at the Pro Shop or Public Safety regarding lost cards. If your ID has been damaged you may obtain another one at the Bursar Replacement cards may be obtained at the Campus Avenue Building, Room 119 (529-8278) or at Shriver Center's lower level, Room 111 (529-4031).
Refunds/Returned Checks
There are no refunds unless authorized by management for medical reasons or regional/residence transfers. There will be a $30 service charge for returned checks.
Ejection from the Recreational Sports Center
The Recreational Sports Center (RSC) has the right to eject immediately
from the RSC any person who:
1. Engages in actions that pose a significant risk or substantial harm to
the health and safety of the individual or others.
2. Engages in actions which destroy property.
3. Engages in actions which disrupt by physical or auditory means the ongoing
operations or activities of the RSC.
4. Engages in actions which violate any federal, state or local law.
In the sole determination of the RSC staff, an individual may first be warned that his/her actions are not acceptable and may lead to ejection if not ceased immediately.
The supervisor on duty shall have the right to eject immediately from the RSC any person engaging in any of the actions described above. If the individual refuses to leave the premises after being advised to leave the premises, the Miami University Police will be called.
Recreational Sports Center Membership Suspension/Termination
Recreational Sports Center (RSC) has the right to suspend or terminate membership
in the RSC for violations of applicable University policies, violations
of RSC policies or posted rules, or actions which violate any federal, state
or local laws.
RSC will give written notice via personal delivery or certified mail of its intention to suspend, along with the proposed period of a suspension, or terminate RSC membership and the reasons therefore.
Within three (3) business days of receipt of the notice, the member may, in writing, request a hearing regarding the proposed suspension or termination.
The decision of RSC to suspend or terminate a membership is final. Individuals suspended or dismissed from the RSC under these procedures have no right to any other hearing or procedures provided under the policies, procedures or rules of Miami University.
The university has the right, however, to pursue disciplinary action in accordance with the policies, procedures or rules of Miami University up to and including dismissal against any faculty, staff member (classified or unclassified) or student based on charges involving the same conduct that led to the proposed suspension or termination of RSC membership.
An individual whose RSC membership has been terminated may not be eligible to apply again for membership at the RSC until a minimum of 12 months from the date of termination has elapsed. Re-admission is at the discretion of the assistant vice president for recreational facilities or designee.
