High and Low Ropes Courses

Located on Route 27 south of Miami's campus, the RSC's Rope Courses are nestled within the friendly confines of Peffer Park.

Originally conceptualized in 1991 as the Groups and Special Programs (GSP) component of the Outdoor Recreation Program, it was designed simply to meet the recreational needs of groups that could not be addressed through the typical OPC programs.

The GOAL program was created from the GSP program. By considering the basic goals and objectives of the GSP program, the new recreational facility and the Camp America Ropes Course, the GOAL program changed its focus and began to provide small and large group initiatives and ROPES course programs.  It provides more effective opportunities for group and leadership programs using proximate facilities.

A low ropes course was built in the summer of 1996 at Peffer Park with funding provided by the Outdoor Pursuit Center and Student Affairs.  It was designed in cooperation with the Natural Areas Committee.  The students and staff of the Outdoor Pursuit Center built the course.

August 2002 also saw the construction of the long awaited high challenge course.  The course was designed by Ryan Dannemann and constructed by Cornerstone Designs, Inc.  This 18 element high course now provides additional programming opportunities for Miami University and the Oxford community.
