The Recreational Sports Center's Water Fitness Program offers patrons with a unique alternative to traditional strength and cardiovascular training. Water exercise provides patrons with a functionally challenging and forgiving atmosphere beneficial to all fitness levels. By performing exercises in water, one's body is provided 360 degrees of support and 360 degrees of resistance at all times. This resistance, provided by the water, is twelve times stronger than the resistance provided to the body in normal land exercises. The constant support obtained in the water allows one to strengthen muscles and joints while reducing direct impact and stress on the body. Because climate is closely controlled in the aquatics area, body temperatures remain at levels allowing longer exercise sessions at a higher intensity level than would be possible on land. Miami University's Recreational Sports Center offers different types of water classes including: Aqua Toners, Deep and Shallow Water Power, Tai Chi, and Poolates. Classes are offered several times a week at different times throughout the day for your convenience. |
