Psi Chi is the national honorary society for psychology, and 2007 marks the 67th anniversary of the Miami University chapter. The purpose of Psi Chi is "to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship of individual members in all fields, particularly psychology, and to advance the science of psychology."

In Spring 2007, the Miami University Chapter held its semi-annual initiation ceremony at the Shriver Center. Psi Chi inducted 19 new members: Nicholas Adams, David Rees Alexander, Rachel Burgard, Emily Dunlea, Erica Hadley, Erica Kelley, Natalie Klotz, Emily Lambrecht, Elizabeth Landes, Paige Lembeck, Erika Leibovitch, Andrew McClintock, Misti Rogers, Kristin Rotar, Katharine Schaeffer, Allison Smith, Mary Spilman, Jessica Van Epp, and Nollis Wanninger. Congratulations to all of the new inductees!

Also, new Psi Chi officiers were installed to lead the organization in 2007-08. The new officers are: Megan Haughn (President), Lauren Rosing (Vice President), Jennifer Roan (Secretary), Melissa Haberer (Treasurer), and Nicole Kramer (Events Coordinator). Congrats to our new officers and good luck next year!

Also at the banquet, the Graduate Students of the Year and Professor of the Year Awards, based on popular vote of psychology undergraduates, were presented to Chris Reiger and Dr. Tim Dowd, respectively. Congratulations to our award winners, and good luck to everyone else next year!

Psi Chi FAQs Contact people

Q. How do I become a member of Psi Chi?
Applications for membership in the Miami University chapter of Psi Chi are accepted each semester. Membership requirements include 12 hours of credit in psychology, a 3.25 overall GPA, a 3.25 psychology GPA, and some research experience. Psi Chi sponsors a number of actvities during the academic year. These events typically focus on career and graduate school information, and on informal get-togethers with faculty, visiting scholars, and fellow students.

Q. How do I get involved in research?
Go to the Psychology Department office in 100 Psychology Building and ask for a list of faculty members' research interests, and look at their listing of faculty members' office hours. Then go see that faculty member, and express interest in becoming a research assistant for independent study credit. At the beginning of the semester the main departmental office will also have a list of faculty members who have openings in their labs for assistants.

Q. How do I get more information about graduate school?
Go to the Departmental Advising Office, in 100 Psychology Building. They have a number of handouts and books on the process of applying to grad school, as well as books such as Graduate Study in Psychology which describe the characteristics of individual programs across the entire country. Also, see the Psi Chi bulletin board in the Psychology Building Lobby, and the other Psi Chi psychology links page of this website, which contains links to many resources to help you prepare for graduate school and careers in psychology and related fields.
