| Miami’s BCS
program adopts several general approaches
to understanding how people perceive,
understand, and act in their environment.
First, faculty with interests in Perception
and Cognition (Johnson, Olzak,
Pantle, Thomas, Waller, Wolfe) focus
on understanding general mechanisms
that allow sensory, perceptual, and
conceptual information to be processed.
Second, faculty with interests in
Neuroscience
(Berry, Quinn, Simson) attempt to
understand how mental processes are
represented in the brain by physiological
systems. Third, faculty with interests
in Human
Factors and Ergonomics (Mark,
Smart) seek to understand how a person’s
environment conveys information that
enables one to accomplish his or her
goals. Finally, several faculty members
(Harris, Shore) study cognitive processes
and structures by examining how they
develop over the life span. |
