Practica
(PSY 750: Advanced Clinical Techniques)
are taught
in conjunction with the MU Psychology
Clinic and have both a didactic and clinical focus.
The MU Pyschology Department's Clinical
Faculty offer practica from their particular theoretical
perspective. They assign and discuss relevant readings
in class as well as supervise graduate students' on-going
therapy and/or assessment with clients in the clinic.
Two practica are typically offered each semester, giving
students some choice in how they fulfill their requirements.
Occassionally, the practica are taught by adjunct faculty.
Practica allow students to see 1-4 clients at a time
with intense, quality supervision. This provides an
excellent introduction into clinical practice and serves
as training ground before students take on the challenge
of a 20-hour external clinical
placement.
