Education:

Theoretical Orientation:

My theoretical orientation is cognitive behavioral with strong influences from attachment theory and the field of parent-child interaction. Clinically, my interests include infant and early childhood mental health, developmental disabilities (e.g., Autism) and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. I am particularly interested in the transactional influences of biological, environmental, temperamental and interpersonal factors in the development and treatment of emotional and behavioral problems in young children.

Recently Taught Graduate Courses:

In my first year at MU, I will be teaching an undergraduate Lifespan Development course. I hope to teach graduate level courses in the areas of child assessment, early childhood mental health and intervention with children and families.

Research Interests:

My research interests are in the area of early childhood mental health and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. I am particularly interested in the psychiatric diagnoses and emotional and behavioral symptoms exhibited by preschool children with prenatal alcohol exposure. I will also be participating in research and program development through the Center for School Based Mental Health at Miami.

Oppportunities for Graduate Students:

I hope to involve graduate students in developing new research projects in the areas of early childhood mental health and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.
